Your store is set up: customers can pay and receive a license key. One job is left, and it needs a developer. This page explains what it is and what to send them. You do not need to read the technical guides yourself.

What is left, and why

Right now your store sells license keys, but your product does not check them. Until it does, anyone can use your product without a key.

The fix is a small piece of coding: a license screen inside your product, with a box where the customer pastes their key. Behind that box, the product asks Licensr "is this key valid?" and unlocks only when the answer is yes. Licensr does the checking. Your developer connects your product to it.

You can keep selling while this is in progress. Keys only start to be enforced once the license screen ships.

What to send your developer

1. The guide for your product type. It is a step-by-step technical guide with the code to copy. Your developer follows it from top to bottom.
   • WordPress plugin
   • Browser extension
   • Audio plugin
   • Desktop app
   • Game engine asset or mod
   • Adobe or Figma plugin
   • VS Code or productivity extension
   • Trading indicator
   • CAD or architecture plugin
   • Anything else
2. Your Product ID. It is shown in Products, for example my-reverb. The product sends it on every check.
3. A Client API key. In Products, open API keys on your product, create a Client key, and copy it right away: it is shown only once. It starts with pk_test_ for testing. Your developer will ask for a pk_live_ key when the product is ready to release. The Client key is meant to be built into the product, so it is fine to send it to them.
4. A test license. Issue one to your own email from Customers → Issue license, or use the shortcut in the setup checklist. Your developer pastes it into the license screen to try it.

Hi! Our store on Licensr is ready, and I need a license screen added to our product so it checks the license key a customer pastes in. Please follow this guide: (paste the link for your product type).

Product ID: (your Product ID) Client API key: (your pk_test_ key)

I will send you a test license key to try it with. Tell me when it is ready and I will do a real test purchase.

How you will know it works

• The last step on the Get started checklist turns green the first time your product checks a key.
• Buy your own product once from your buy page to see the whole journey, from payment to unlocking.

Good to know

• Licensr does not host your download. You keep hosting the file on your own website or store, and link your Buy button to your Licensr buy page. See how selling works.
• The developer does not need a Licensr login. The Product ID and the Client key are all they need.
